Red Sox fan reveals role in ALDS Game 3 postponement

Mother Nature has her say.

In a strange twist to the American League Divsion Series, it was revealed Sunday that the rain which forced the postponement of Game 3 at Fenway Park was a deliberate move on the part of an especially passionate Red Sox fan.

"I love the Sox and want Big Papi to go out a winner," Mother Nature told reporters in a press conference held on a cloud overlooking Kenmore Saure. "I sent the rain so David Ortiz can rest his feet."

With the Red Sox trailing the Indians 2 games to 0 in the best-of-five series, and Ortiz struggling along with a 1-for-8 batting mark, the rain is providing an opportunity for the retiring designated hitter to have an extra day off. He is experiencing constant pain in his feet, for which he has received treatment all season.

Ortiz has often winced while running this year.

Game 3 of the ALDS is now scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday at Fenway. Game 4, originally scheduled for Monday, will now be on Tuesday (if necessary) at a to-be-determined time -- based on how the other three MLB playoff series progress.

The Game 4 scenario creates a potential problem for Jewish Red Sox fans, many of whom are scheduled to be in synagogue on Tuesday evening for Yom Kippur services. If Game 4 is rescheduled as a night game, MLB.com is preparing for a power surge on its smart phone apps as millions of temple-goers secretly tune in.
